PORTLAND, OR, UNITED STATES, August 16, 2026 - Today, the National Animal Interest Alliance (NAIA) lauded Senator Boozman (R-AK) and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry for advancing a bipartisan Farm Bill that includes the Healthy Dog Importation Act (HDIA). Patti Strand, NAIA President and Co-Founder, said in the following statement:
"The inclusion of the Healthy Dog Importation Act (HDIA) represents an important step toward strengthening animal and public health protections at our border. Thanks to the work of Chairman John Boozman (R-AK) for his leadership in advancing the Farm Bill and Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Tina Smith (D-MN) for their continued bipartisan work on the Healthy Dog Importation Act (HDIA). By establishing stronger health, vaccination, and documentation requirements for dogs entering the United States, this legislation will help reduce the risk of dangerous pathogens threatening companion animals, livestock, and the public. NAIA looks forward to working with Congress to deliver a bipartisan Farm Bill that can be enacted into law this year."
