Dear friends,

On May 8th, I testified before your Committee at the hearing for the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).  I've received hundreds of calls and e-mails thanking me for bringing to light the work, research, and dedication of people who work with animals and their concerns with the animal rights movement.

As Congress considers the implications of the AWA, it is critical that Members hear from the organizations that work closest with animals—organizations such as the ones on the attached letter, that spend extraordinary amounts of time and energy ensuring that humane treatment guidelines are followed for each and every animal.

Light must be shed on the true intentions of extremist animal rights activists: the abolition of all animal uses.  The current humane treatment regulations and guidelines developed over many years of evaluating veterinary research and sound science were developed by people on the attached letter.  Their research and guidance should be the backbone of animal care, not the emotional rhetoric of activist.

The attached letter is intended to share our concerns regarding the Animal Welfare Act and the animal rights agenda interfering in the 2007 Farm Bill, and we hope that you will take our concerns into account when handling these issues.

Sincerely,

Charlie Stenholm
