I am writing to voice my disgust and dismay at your support of AB 1634. I cannot fathom why the CVMA would support legislation that interferes with decisions that rightly should be made by a veterinarian and his/her clients. I vehemently object to being told how to conduct my practice - especially by politicians, who have absolutely no knowledge of veterinary medicine, no idea of the consequences of this bill, and obviously no desire to know, either. They are guided by emotion and a desire for power and votes. Those are NOT the criteria that should govern the practice of veterinary medicine.
I am further sickened by the effect that this bill will have on the hard-won success of rabies vaccination programs. It should be obvious that when this bill puts the squeeze on the less-than-ethical pet owners, the most critical thing to succumb to this bill will be the numbers of pets that are vaccinated for rabies. What are you really trying to accomplish, and how do you/will you sleep at night?
